FOR many Zimbabweans living outside the country, music is a strong evoker of nostalgia.
Whenever artistes from the motherland perform for them live on stage, those moments are cherished.
Therefore, a golden moment had presented itself for Zimbabweans living in South Africa when Selmor Mtukudzi arranged a tour of that country last month.
Her team had planned a two-city tour covering Johannesburg and Cape Town.
However, the gigs had to be cancelled after xenophobic attacks rocked South Africa as tour dates drew closer.
Music fans, who were gutted by the cancellation of the tour, will be glad to learn that organisers have set new dates for the gigs.
The Selmor and Friends concerts are now scheduled for November 29 and 30 at Ekhuruleni Boksburg Hotel in Johannesburg as well as The Mercury Live, Cape Town.
The tour, which is organised by Xtratime Entertainment in conjunction with Mukuru.com, has been taking place for the past five years under the Mukuru Tuku Concerts banner.
With the passing on of their traditional headliner in January this year, Mukuru Tuku Concerts have roped in Tuku’s daughter to fill in his shoes.
Selmor is no stranger to the big stage. She has had her fair share of international live performances.
This particular outing will be no different.
The “Nguva Yangu” hit-maker will be supported by other talented musicians that include Nox Guni, Dino Mudondo, Simba Saini and Tapfuma Tmula, to name a few.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Society, Tongai Mbidzo of Xtratime Entertainment said the tour is a continuation of the concerts they hosted with the late Tuku.
“Selmor is an established musician with a musical career that spans over a decade. Of late, she has incorporated a lot of her late father’s music into her playlist, which means we still get to continue the musical journey that Tuku had established across the globe through her daughter,” said Mbidzo.
