SENATE president Cde Mable Chinomona has been appointed First Vice Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary union (APU).
Her appointment was made at the 84th Session of the Executive Committee and 47th Conference of the APU that was held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Parliament of Zimbabwe confirmed her appointment in a statement today.
“Heartfelt congratulations to Honourable Mable Memory Chinomona, President of the Senate, on her appointment as First Vice Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union.
“This outstanding achievement reflects her dedication and unwavering commitment to advancing Africa’s parliamentary collaboration. Madam Chinomona’s exemplary leadership stands as a beacon of inspiration, strengthening parliamentary co-operation and unity across the African continent,” reads the statement.
Cde Chinomona joins a number of Zimbabweans who have been appointed to various leadership positions in several multilateral organisations.
Cde Chinomona led Zimbabwe’s delegation to the conference held under the theme: “The challenges of energy transition and the development of renewable energies in Africa and the consolidation of national sovereignty for sustainable development.”
The conference ran from November 18 to 22.
