A senior Air Force of Zimbabwe parachute jumping instructor died on Sunday after he was involved in a parachute accident at Charles Prince Airport.
AFZ public relations officer Squadron Leader Donovan Muroyiwa said Flight Lieutenant Anesu Kabinara died during a routine jumping exercise with the Mashonaland Skydiving Club. “The officer suffered severe injuries on the right arm and the right leg, and the AFZ medical team immediately rushed him to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he was attended to by medical specialists,” he said.
He said Kabinara was pronounced dead a few hours after admission.
“The Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe, Air Marshal Perrance Shiri, in a condolence message to the family said ‘Flight Lieutenant Kabinara was such a promising officer, who at a time when many of his peers shunned the challenge of being parachutists, took it up without fear and was a vital cog in ensuring operational readiness within the parachuting department’.
His void shall be difficult to fill,” said Squadron Leader Muroyiwa.
He said Kabinara had more than a hundred jumps under his belt and showcased his skills at regional air shows and various national celebrations.
He is survived by wife, Priscilla Tapiwa Jinjika, and two children.
Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
