A 68-YEAR-OLD man appeared in court on Monday accused of selling a stand belonging to a Zimbabwean national based in the UK to Vatcane Tide Express Motor Spares for $17 000.
Booker Mavunga (68) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo, charged with fraud.
Further remand for Mavunga, of Hatfield, was refused because he had been detained for a long period.
The State will now proceed by way of summons.
The court heard that Vatcane Tide Express Motor Spares is a company in the business of buying and selling motor vehicle spares.
Prosecuting, Ms Idah Maromo alleged that on July 23 this year, the company saw an advertisement in a local newspaper of a Tynwald South stand measuring 2 165 square meters that was on sale.
The company was interested and it contacted Mavunga who claimed to be the owner of the stand.
The parties arranged to meet and Mavunga introduced himself as Earnest Chikwiramakomo.
He allegedly referred the company to the Deeds Office before negotiations commenced.
The company later viewed the stand and was interested in purchasing it.
Three days later, the company paid for the stand and an agreement of sale was signed.
The company was given a copy of the Deed of Transfer 00011536/2012.
It was later established that the owner of the stand is based in the UK.
The company lost $17 000 and nothing was recovered.
