AN initiative to provide stimulation and stress relief for senior citizens while fostering community bonding has been launched.
Dubbed ‘Vintage Vibes Family Fun Day, the event was held on Saturday.
It ran under the theme, ‘A Celebration Of Life, Positivity And Connection.’
Event organiser Liz Dziva said this is an initiative to address mental health issues.
“Our event is tailored to provide mental stimulation and stress relief for senior citizens while fostering intergenerational connections and community bonding.
“As we navigate the complexities of life, it is easy to forget that our mental health is just as important as our physical health.
“That is why we are excited to launch ‘Vintage Vibes Family Fun Day’, a unique event designed to promote mental wellness among senior citizens and their families in Southerton, Lochinvar, and surrounding areas,” she said.
Lizsaid they intend to provide mental stimulation and stress relief for senior citizens through activities and entertainment.
“This is about fostering intergenerational connections and community bonding by bringing together seniors, their families, and the wider community.
“We also intend to celebrate life and positivity and reduce loneliness among senior citizens through a fun and inclusive event.
“The bottom line is to create a platform for seniors to share life stories and experiences, promoting social interaction and community engagement.”
She added:
“By engaging senior citizens, and their families, we are breaking down barriers and fostering a culture of understanding.
“We are proud to partner with The Friendship Bench, an evidence-based intervention developed in Zimbabwe to bridge the mental health treatment gap.”
Local artist and wellness activist, Brian Nyahuma, added his voice to the initiative.
“For me, this initiative is about being my brother and sister’s keeper, fostering a supportive community, encouraging open conversation about mental health, and providing resources for those seeking help.”
