Sentamu snubbed for top Anglican job

become the leader of the Church of England as Archbishop of Canterbury has been snubbed for the top job for lack of diplomatic skills, reports from London say.
Sentamu, whose claim to fame was cutting his dog collar live on British television, as he vowed he would only wear it after President Mugabe left the political scene, had been tipped for the post left vacant by Rowan Williams retirement.

Despite positive speculations promising the Uganda born Sentamu, would automatically take over leadership of the church of England, the CoE continues to this day without a leader who should have been announced in September.

The clergyman is known for his December 2007 stunt when he cut off his ‘holy’ clerical collar on live British television as he declared that he would not wear the ceremonial sacrament again ‘until Mugabe is gone’:
“As far as I am concerned, from now on I am not going to wear a dog collar until Mugabe is gone,” he quipped then.

By March this year, it was largely reported that Sentamu’s appointment to the top job would be highly beneficial to the church. Sentamu’s great chances to succeed Williams were then announced as almost certain having been challenged by only one person — the Bishop of London who was, however, viewed as less qualifying because of ideological differences on women ordination, a technicality that favoured Sentamu.

Reports from London say the Crown Nominations Commission which is tasked with finding the next archbishop of Canterbury; was looking at other potential candidates having declared Sentamu unfit for the job.

The Commission is reportedly torn between two candidates, the Bishop of Norwich Graham James and the Bishop of Durham Justin Welby, according to the UK Daily Mail. — Daily Mail/Guardian/Herald Reporter
