A serial carjacker and robber was last week jailed for 18 years when he was found guilty on three counts of robbery. Blessings Makomborero Kaduke (25), who appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Hoseah Mujaya, was convicted of robbery of a motor vehicle, among other charges. Mr Mujaya sentenced him to 18 years in prison on three counts of robbery. However, four years were suspended and he will serve an effective 14 years in prison.

In another case, Kaduke was sentenced to six years for robbery of a motor vehicle but two years were suspended for four years on condition of good behaviour.
It is the State’s case that in June 2013, a taxi driver, identified only as Shanda, was hired by Kaduke and his friend, to ferry them to Koala Park, off Seke Road, on the outskirts of Harare.
Kaduke occupied the back seat while his accomplice sat on the front passenger seat.

The court heard that as they were approaching Koala Park, Kaduke instructed Shanda to turn left into a dust road, before asking him to stop after about a kilometre.
The court heard that Kaduke then grabbed Shanda by the neck and his friend tied his hands with a cloth and legs with a belt. The two then drove off, leaving Shanda behind.
Shanda reported the matter to the police, leading to Kaduke’s eventual arrest.
