A seven-member Zimbabwe Sunshine Group (ZSG) delegation had left for Sweden on Saturday for a Sustainable Waste Management Study to acquire knowledge to promote the Zero Waste drive.
They will be in Sweden until February 27.
The head of delegation, Ronny Mbaisa, said the study visit was necessitated by the drive that has been adopted by the ZSG in its 2023-2027 strategic plan.
“The Zero Waste drive’ is made feasible through the strong support rendered by Government departments, the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), local authorities, UN agencies and embassies,” he said.
Mbaisa said it’s not the first for the group to embark on such visits.
“In 2017, the ZSG embarked on a similar study visit that resulted in the development of a high breed system of carefully blended European standards and local methods and practices that saw the introduction of waste transfer station model which is now being adopted and replicated across the country.
“The ZSG is alive to the reality that in order to achieve zero waste, several interventions and appropriate infrastructure that covers all the stages in the value chain of sustainable waste management ought to be put in place. This means there have to be point of generation solutions.”
