OFFICIALS at the Mutare Civil Courts were left stunned after a woman disclosed that her husband once threatened to rape and axe her after she refused to sleep with him since he had refused to go for HIV testing.
This was revealed when Happy Mukono approached the courts seeking a protection order against his estranged wife, Barbara Vhiriri.
He described as an errant wife who deserted him for South Africa in 2012 without informing him only to come back in 2016.
Mrs Yeukai Chigodora presided over the matter.
Mukono told the court that since 2012, he was denied his conjugal rights after his wife left for South Africa without his knowledge. She only came back this year claiming she still loved him.
He went on to tell the court that Vhiriri was threatening to kill him.
“She says she is now as heartless as South Africans and that she had a gun and a knife that she carries everywhere she goes. Your Worship, from what I know she is no longer my wife since she left without informing me and there was no communication between us. She only came back after hearing that I bought a stand which she now wants to grab from me,” he said. Vhiriri, however, had another story to tell. She disputed everything that Mukono was saying and claimed that their misunderstanding arose after she did not consent to his sexual advances. “This man wants me to consent to his sexual advances when I do not know whom he has been sleeping with since 2012 when I was in South Africa. When I came back, I asked him to go get tested for HIV, but he refused and wants to force me to have sex with him. Your Worship, at one time he threatened to kill me with an axe saying that if I do not have sex with him, I will be a dead woman. I will never have sex with my husband using condoms, never,” she said.
She also told the court that she bought the residential stand in question before she left for South Africa.
“Even if this court bars me from visiting him, I will still go there since it is a stand that I bought with my hard-earned cash and my five children are staying there,” she claimed.
Mukono was granted the protection order against Vhiriri, but she was not barred from visiting his residence as her children are staying with him.
