Shabanie in turmoil

The club president Greg Mataka however refuted the claims as he wore a brave face and said his club had players to wear the maroon and white jersey next season.
“We are not in a crisis and I would like to assure everyone that we have the players. We have a very good striker in Artwell Nyoni and one of the best centrebacks in Pardon Marime who was suspended because of indiscipline and Artwell was nursing an injury which I believe is now healed,” said Mataka.

“We are not going to stand in the way of players who want to move to other teams but the truth is most of the players who play for us are employed by the company and by that regard they are still our players. We also have other players from relegated Hardbody and other teams who are ready to play for us”, he said.
Mataka however admitted that things were not so rosy in their camp.

“We are currently like mourning and there is no need for us to have a wedding that is an awards ceremony as it gives a very bad picture to the person or people who are mourning”, he said referring to his coach Luke Masomere who has been banned by Zifa.

Masomere was suspended by Zifa after he was implicated in the Asiagate scandal but he has however appealed against the ban which is still to be heard.
It is in that sense that Shabanie suspended the awards ceremony as they felt they could not celebrate when their coach is still in trouble.
Arnold Jani and Elvis Muuya have in the meantime been asked to take charge of the team in the absence of Masomere.

Some of the players have set their sights in joining newly promoted Triangle with some being lured with the rand to Beitbridge to join Tripple B.
The asbestos miners owe the majority of their players signing-on fees from 2010 ranging between $2 000 and $6 000 forcing players to be reluctant to have another commitment with the club until they are paid their outstanding money.

One sponsor in the just ended season bought football kits and took care of the teams’ accommodation in their away matches.
The Shabanie welfare team manager who bailed the team when it was in the murky waters of relegation and poured his money as well this season, Samson Gondwe is also worried about the events.

Mataka however assured fans not to panic as things were under control although he admitted that they had financial challenges to run the club
The team finished fifth on the log.
