JAIROS Tapera began his tenure at Shabanie Mine on a positive note when he guided the asbestos miners to a much-needed victory over visiting Hwange at Maglas yesterday. Former How Mine defender Terrence Majo’s 38th minute strike and veteran defender Zvenyika Makonese’s 82nd minute header gave the hosts victory.
Shabanie now occupy 13th place with 26 points from 22 games after dislodging How Mine who has 24 points from 21 games.
The gold miners host ZPC Kariba this afternoon.
Gweru referee Thomas Massa awarded the hosts a free kick outside the Hwange goal area and Majo, a former Ndarama High student, curled a beauty that beat ‘keeper Timothy Sibanda.
Veteran midfielder Rowan Nenzou was inspirational for the hosts with a good show.
Nenzou flighted a good ball from a corner kick in the 82nd minute and Makonese planted his header past Sibanda.
“I thank God for guiding me, the players did very well and the fans cheered the team from the first minute,” said Shabanie coach Tapera.
“I am 48 years old, I have played football and I have been coaching for the past 25 years.
“I am a national team coach and I am surprised by people who say I am at Shabanie Mine to gain coaching experience when I have coached Chapungu, Black Rhinos, Tongogara, Hwange and many other teams.”
