FC Platinum………………………………………………………. (1) 1
Shabanie Mine………………………………………………………… 0
LLOYD “Samaita” Mutasa broke Shabanie Mine’s fans’ hearts when he became the first coach to beat the self-proclaimed doctor of football Luke Masomere in a derby in a thrilling a Castle Lager Premiership at Mandava Stadium on Saturday.
FC Platinum shocked the asbestos miners with just thirty seconds into the match when Michelle Katsvairo scored the fastest goal of the season which
ensured the miners remain with a strong challenge for the league championship title.
The platinum miners had twice fallen to the asbestos miners losing 0-1 in the first league encounter before seeing their elimination in the BancABC Sup8r Cup final.
But yesterday it was sweet revenge for Mutasa who had earlier in the week declared that they would beat Shabanie.
The win came at a cost to FC Platinum as vital cog Winston Mhango had to be whisked to the hospital with a suspected fracture.
Shabanie were not spared either as Phillip Sithole had also to be stretchered off the pitch.
With some fans still taking their seats Charles Sibanda made his way past Blessed Mbavarira on the left and sent an inch perfect pass into the box
that Katsvairo easily placed past the badly exposed Victor Twaliki.
FC Platinum could have doubled the scoreline in the 15th minute when substitute Marshal Mudehwe won possession with the Shabanie Mine defence in disarray.
With goalkeeper Twaliki drawn out, he fired a shot at goal only to see his effort headed over the bar by Mbavarira for a corner.
Katsvairo then got another chance to grab a brace when he got the better of Mbavarira and Shabanie Mine captain Smart Muchabayiwa in the 32nd minute
but with only Twaliki to beat he directed his shot to the southern stand which was housing the FC Platinum fans.
Tarisai Rukanda could have equalised for the visitors three minutes later when he caught the FC Platinum defence off guard but when it looked easier to score than to miss he blasted his effort over the bar.
The loss saw Shabanie stay among relegation favourites.
