Bwititi families following the deaths of Reverend German Muchechetere, father to ZBC chief executive Happison Muchec-hetere and veteran journalist Makuwerere Bwititi.
In his message to the Muchechetere family, Minister Shamu said news of the Reverend’s death had been received with a heavy heart and great sense of loss.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Media, Information and Publicity, on behalf of my family and on own my behalf, we wish to commiserate with the Muchechetere family, relatives and friends, following this sad loss.
“We hope they will draw some comfort in the knowledge that our prayers are with them during this very trying time,” he said.
Rev Muchechetere (94) died after a long illness on Tuesday at St Annes Hospital in Harare. He was a veteran educationist and clergyman. He was born on 18 August, 1918 in Chimombe Village, Gutu District of Mas-vingo.
He trained as a teacher at Morgenster and taught for several years before resigning to serve as a minister of religion in the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
He leaves behind nine children, 21 grandchildren and 12 great grand children.
Reverend Muchechetere will be buried at Warren Hills Cemetery tomorrow. Mourners are gathered at 55 Bargate Road, Vainona.
Similarly, Minister Shamu lamented the death of Bwititi saying it was a loss to the entire media fraternity.
Minister Shamu said it was critical to have more journalists like Bwititi, more newspapers like the Southern Times and the New Era and more such institutions in the electronic media sector.
“May the bright memories of his great and impressive contribution to the country and region give peace and consolation to his family, wife Theresa, his three children and the entire journalism profession in the country as well as the region.
“May these great memories and accomplished professional life also be a source of inspiration to all journalists in Zimbabwe and the sub region,” said Minister Shamu.
