It is morally and ethically wrong for businesses not to give back to their communities, the Minister said last Friday at the Nicoz Diamond Annual Charity fundraising dinner.
The insurance firm is raising money for disadvantaged members of society.
The dinner was a call for involvement for everyone to do something about the plight of those around them.
“It is a call for us to introspect and come up with something we can set aside for the purpose of assisting the needy in our communities, bearing in mind that no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted,” he said.
“If this was done by all our companies and businesses in the country, what a difference it would make in the lives of our people.”
The Minister paid tribute to firms that have in the past assisted the disadvantaged, saying it was not only Nicoz doing social responsibility.
“There are several other organisations that are lending a helping hand.
“On behalf of Government, let me take this opportunity to thank such companies, while at the same time appealing to those that still have to do something in their areas to emulate the good example set by Nocoz Diamond and others,” he said.
Nicoz Diamond managing director, Mrs Grace Muradzikwa urged other firms to consider social responsibility in their operations. The event was attended by captains of industry and other senior Government officials.
