in the forthcoming elections to enable the completion of empowerment programmes to benefit the majority of Zimbabweans.
He said it was crucial for Zimbabweans to retain the party to take the revolution to its logical end.
Addressing a capacity crowd at Tshovani Stadium in Chiredzi during the belated Masvingo Provincial 21st Feburary Movement celebrations gala on Saturday night, Cde Shamu said Zimbabweans should protect the gains of the country’s hard won independence.
“I want to urge all of you to make sure that Zanu-PF wins the forthcoming elections because it is the only party that is a true custodian of our country’s hard won independence and the revolution,” he said.
“Zanu-PF has to be voted into power again at the next polls to make sure that we bring the revolution to its logical end by completing the process of transferring wealth into the hands of the majority.’’
Cde Shamu, who is also the Minister of Media, Information and Publicity, equated the forthcoming polls to the historic 1980 elections that swept away colonial rule and ushered in independence.
“Voting for Zanu-PF at the next election would mean that you are safeguarding the land reform, economic empowerment and indigenisation programmes and all the natural resources that we have,’’ he said.
Cde Shamu said by voting for Zanu-PF, Zimbabweans would have sent a bold and clear message to Western neo-colonial nations that the country and its resources belong to the indigenous people.

He urged Zimbabweans to shun political parties like the MDCs that he said were merely stooges of Western nations bent on controlling the country’s natural resources.
“We should use our vote so that Zimbabwe is never again ruled by sellouts like the two MDCs and I believe that the people of this country have now realised that what they were being promised by fly-by-night political parties for the past 10 years is all lies,’’ said Cde Shamu.
He said the appalling service delivery in most urban councils run by the MDC-T, coupled with runaway corruption, exposed the Western-sponsored party as divorced from the will and aspirations of the people.
Zimbabweans, Cde Shamu said, should vote peacefully and be tolerant to one another so that differences do not lead to fights as the country gears for elections.
“Kana munhu akanganisa batai munhu mumuendese kumapurisa,” he said.
“Don’t put the law into your hands. Work with the police towards, during and after the elections. We say no to violence.”
The all-night gala livened up the normally sleepy sugar growing town of Chiredzi and was attended by top Zanu-PF officials in Masvingo including Politburo member Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire, Masvingo governor Titus Maluleke and Chiredzi North legislator Cde Ronald Ndaba.
Musicians who performed at the gala included Somandla Ndebele, Gift Amuli, Tambaoga, Mbare Chimurenga Choir and the Chibadura Brothers.
