ZANU-PF national political commissar Cde Webster Shamu urged Manicaland party members to exercise unity of purpose to steer development in the country under the vision 2020 of the party’s manifesto and the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset).
Cde Shamu said this as the guest of honour at the Manicaland Zanu-PF co-ordinating committee meeting held over the weekend.
The national PC said it was important for people to have an understanding of the party with every decision guided by the party’s constitution which is the party’s bible.
“People should have respect for their leaders and should be prepared to work for the party.
“The performance of all of the structures in the party from the main board, Youth and Women’s Leagues, PCC all the way down to the grassroots is guided by the constitution of the party.
“So let us read our constitution and stand guided by it to know the vision of the party and our parameters in our different structures and positions within the party.
“This is why we have this induction so that we bring together all the provincial committees and update each other on developments and shortcomings that should be worked on to progress the party and develop our nation,” said Cde Shamu.
Cde Shamu said as a party they should always speak with one voice which is one of the objectives of the co-ordinating committee meetings held countrywide.
He stressed that for Zanu-PF to survive from the liberation struggle up to date, it was because of the solidarity within the party and the value of always speaking with one voice.
Manicaland Zanu-PF chairman Ambassador Dr John Mvundura said as the Youth and Women Leagues elections approach, provincial members should be mindful of ‘‘worthy’’ candidates and be conscious of fly- by-night candidates who are hungry for positions.
“We do not want candidates that are just seen when elections come. We will not support this behaviour in Manicaland because we want our province to be successful and such fly-by-night candidates do not have the province or development at heart,” said Ambassador Mvundura.
He also urged people to know their rank and file within the party for them to be effective, citing the party’s constitution as the cornerstone of the party.
Cde Shamu said everyone should emulate President Robert Mugabe whose great vision of indigenisation and empowerment of the masses has become an eye-opener not only to Zimbabweans but to the rest of the continent.
Others present were Women’s League national chairperson Cde Oppah Muchinguri, Mashonaland West Women’s League chairperson Cde Constance Shamu, Politburo member Cde Munacho Mutezo and Manicaland Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration Cde Kenneth Saruchera.
