Sharapova, Dimitrov split

ANOTHER high-profile tennis romance has gone kaput. Maria Sharapova, the five-time Grand Slam champion, world No. 2 and highest earning woman in sports, has split with her tennis-playing boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov, the 16th-ranked man in the world who was four years her junior. The pair had been dating for just over two years.
“Our paths parted,” Dimitrov told tenniskafe.com, according to Reuters.

“We lived through wonderful moments together. I wish her much happiness and success in life and tennis.”
Though the couple sometimes attended each other’s matches, theirs was hardly an in-your-face relationship like Caroline Wozniacki and Rory McIlroy.

The best evidence of that is the best pictures of the couple were taken by paparazzi, not by legitimate news photographers.

It took months for the rumours of a relationship to become fact and even then the couple wasn’t celebrating it by posting dozens of beach pictures on Twitter and Instagram.

The relationship was most infamous because of derisive comments made by Serena Williams, who had apparently dated Dimitrov for a brief time before he began seeing Sharapova. In putting Sharapova on blast, Serena seemingly referenced Dimitrov in a wholly negative way. The comments came in a controversial 2013 Rolling Stone interview with Stephen Rodrick:“There are people who live, breathe and dress tennis.

“I mean, seriously, give it a rest.” Serena exits the car and the conversation moves on to a top-five player who is now in love.

“She begins every interview with ‘I’m so happy. I’m so lucky’ – it’s so boring,” says Serena in a loud voice.
“She’s still not going to be invited to the cool parties. And, hey, if she wants to be with the guy with a black heart, go for it.” (An educated guess is she’s talking about Sharapova, who is now dating Grigor Dimitrov, one of Serena’s rumoured exes.) – MSN.
