TAKU SHARIWA, the coach of ZIFA Eastern Region Soccer League side, FC Wangu Mazodze, says football should create opportunities for everyone and should be a catalyst for community development.
Speaking to H-Metro, the former CAPS United assistant coach said:
“We are a very young team that is starting to string some good results.
“It’s unfortunate the break came when we were gaining momentum and everything was shaping up.
“We hope to pick up from where we left and cement our position and not stay far away from the log leaders.”
“We hope to secure the services of some new players and bolster our squad. “We want to strengthen all areas.
“The idea is to add one experienced defender in our squad and look for other prospects, in other positions.”
He added:
“As you can see, we were at the top of our game when the break came.
“We are trying to match those standards.
“The team started slowly and picked up some steam towards the break.
“In such a scenario you wouldn’t want to stop playing. So, our aim is to start with the same momentum.
“If you check the way we rose from the bottom of the league to be in the middle of the table, by mid-season, it explains the work we have been putting in.”
He said the game should offer the young players a chance.
“It’s essential to create opportunities for young players. They should go through the development, at the right time, for them to be prepared for the bigger stage. “If you look at the way football has been structured in Zimbabwe, it is a bit worrisome.
“We have the same players being rotated time and time again in the system. It’s been the same coaches we have been seeing all these past years.
“Football should have space for new brains and new challenges.”
