DYNAMOS forward Witness Shave says he is gradually settling into life at the country’s biggest football club and is gaining confidence despite the pressure that comes with wearing the famous blue jersey.
Shave joined Dynamos from Triangle ahead of the current campaign and, like many players who make the move to the Harare giants, has had to adjust to the heightened expectations that come from supporters who demand positive results every week. The young striker admitted that adapting to the environment was initially challenging, but believes he is now beginning to understand what is required of him at the club.
“At first there was pressure because Dynamos is a big club and the supporters always want results,” said Shave.
“But with time I have come to understand that I just need to focus on doing my job. If I work hard and follow the coach’s instructions, everything else will fall into place.”
The former Triangle forward is still searching for his first competitive goal for Dynamos but remains optimistic that the breakthrough moment is around the corner.
He said finding the back of the net in DeMbare colours is one of his immediate targets and believes continued hard work will eventually be rewarded.
“Every striker wants to score goals and I am no different. I am eager to get my first goal for Dynamos and I am looking forward to that moment. I believe it will come soon if I keep working hard and stay patient,” he said.
Shave also believes his transition has been made easier by the presence of head coach Genesis Mangombe, whom he previously worked with during his time at Triangle.
The familiarity with Mangombe’s methods and expectations has helped him adapt more quickly to life at Dynamos, according to the striker.
“It has helped me a lot because I already know the coach’s philosophy and the way he wants us to play. I understand his demands because I worked with him before at Triangle,” said Shave.
“So for me it is about following instructions and continuing to improve every day. Knowing what the coach expects makes the adjustment easier.”
As Dynamos continue their campaign with their recent 2-1 win against Ngezi Platinum on Saturday, the club will be hoping Shave’s growing confidence translates into goals.
Meanwhile the youngster is determined to repay the faith shown in him by the technical team and supporters alike.
“May our fans keep on supporting us and continue with the love they have already shown. We are grateful,” he said.
