CURTBETH Masawi was left disappointed yesterday after magistrate Rutendo Machingura threw out his application for a protection order against his wife.

Curtbeth had taken his wife, Alice Makozho, to the Harare Civil Court on accusations of disturbing his peace.

He alleged that she had even threatened to scald him with boiling water.

“She has become a burden to me and I have known no peace for quite some time now.

“I can no longer sleep properly because I am afraid she will pour boiling water or cooking oil on me, as she always threatens.

“At one point, she burnt a bed cover that was among my blankets after I had moved out of our bedroom,” claimed Curtbeth.

He also alleged that Alice abuses him emotionally and physically.

“My wife no longer cooks food for me or does my laundry.

“She also abuses our 22-year-old daughter, telling her to acquire her own pots because she was once married,” he said.

Alice denied Curtbeth’s allegations, saying he had, instead, threatened to bash her with an iron bar.

“He is lying before the courts that I am abusive when he is the one who assaults me.

“Although we are still living under one roof, we each do our own things,” said Alice.

She stated that they had a longstanding misunderstanding and had lost any hope of reconciling.
