A SHEBEEN queen who lost her marbles and assaulted a police officer in a bid to avoid being arrested for operating an illegal beer outlet in Pumula has appeared in court.A handcuffed Eve Mtanga, 48, assaulted Jane Mlotshwa who had arrested her for operating a shebeen.

Mtanga appeared before magistrate Tancy Dube facing one count of operating a shebeen and another of assaulting or resisting a peace officer.

She pleaded guilty to both charges and was remanded out of custody to tomorrow.

Prosecuting Kenneth Shava told the court that on Saturday around 10PM, Mtanga was found operating a shebeen at her house.

“The police officer effected an arrest and six patrons were arrested. They were made to pay fines and 20 pints of beer were recovered,” said Shava.

The court heard that Mtanga attempted to hide some of the beer under the mattress, unaware that Mlotshwa was watching her.

Mlotshwa then took the beer and a police officer who was with her handcuffed Mtanga. The shebeen queen then punched Mlotshwa on her left eye.

She went on to throw empty beer bottles at the police officers.
