Chanter Shiga Shiga on Wednesday launched his solo career with an album tilted “Two Years Later” at City Sports Bar.
Musicians Jacob Moyana, Somandla Ndebele, Energy Mutodi, First Farai, Extra Kwazvose’s Jonasi Kasamba and Obert Gomba, Obvious Mutani and promoter Patson Chimbodza graced the event.
First Farai ignited laughter in the audience saying he had at one point refused to be part of the delegation to pay lobola for Shiga Shiga’s wife because he was afraid he would be tempted to steal the money.
He was jokingly referring to the allegations that he stole condolence money at Cephas Mashakada’s funeral.
First Farai left stage time to Mutodi who received mixed reactions from fans after he said he groomed Shiga Shiga.
The musicians went on stage for a song Moyo Wekurera which was originally done by Ndebele and Moyo.
Kasamba was the lead vocalist retracing some of his popular chants done while he was with Alick Macheso.
Notable by his absence was Peter Moyo who formerly employed Shiga Shiga and had been invited for the launch.
The Young Igwe as the musician is fondly known and his manager Sukol Dube hanged their mobile phones after they were asked why they did not turn up for the event.
Shiga Shiga said he invited his former boss and he was looking forward to see him though he failed to come.
“I don’t know why he failed to turn up for the event but I had invited him and I was looking forward for him to come,” said Shiga.
The launch went well with performances from Moyana and new songs from Shiga Shiga.
