ZIMBABWE professional golfers will take a small break in the Sunshine Tour this week, but are expected to return to the course in next week’s Sunshine Tour Invitational at Centurion Country Club in Pretoria, South Africa.
Centurion Country Club is a centrally located 160-hectare Estate and Country Club that captures the natural beauty of its neighbouring quaint village, Irene, and offers hospitality and old fashioned values on a well-designed course.
A total of six local professional golfers are expected in next-week’s tournament after they joined those who have shown interest in playing in the tournament.
Ben Follet-Smith as usual lead the local contingent and will be looking forward to improve from his previous two outings when he missed the cut in both the Sunbet Challenge and the Vodacom Origins of Golf.
The top professional will be joined by Mark Williams, Mohammad Rauf Mandhu, Greg Bentley, Shaahid Mahmed and Kayyam Rauf Mandhu.
The course has three unique features in that it has parkland areas, desert areas and then numerous holes surrounded by water expertly designed by Peter Matkovich to ensure an incredible variety of shots and challenging any golfer’s game.
All in all, the golf course has 10 holes where the Hennops River and Lakes come into play. The course is still relatively easy to play for the straight hitters.
The rough and fairways are planted with Kikuyu grass while the greens are bent grass. The total measurement off the men’s club markers is 6373m and 5313m for the ladies. Senior tees are also available.
