Zimbabwe’s sole lithium miner, Bikita Minerals, has given a major boost to Government’s thrust in promoting the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects by constructing a state-of-the-art science laboratory at Bikita Fashu High School. The science lab will enhance the teaching of science subjects to hundreds of rural students from both Chiwara in Gutu and Marozva in Bikita.
Bikita Minerals chief executive Mr Grant Hudson told The Herald that the construction of the science lab was part of his firm’s several community responsibility projects in Bikita. He said Bikita Minerals wanted to improve learning conditions for rural students from poor backgrounds.
“Our focus is to make Bikita a driving force in the field of education and we will do all we can to help schools in this district,” said Mr Hudson. “The donations have come along to complement Government’s efforts to improve science education through STEM.
”I have also made it a personal commitment that schoolchildren in Bikita get the required science equipment so that they perform better than myself in the field of science and mathematics.”
Mr Hudson said it had always been his firm’s wish to plough back to the Bikita community from where Bikita Minerals draws most of its dedicated workforce that has kept the lithium miner afloat.
