Award-winning Zimbabwean acapella group Shower Power will on December 21 hold an anniversary show titled “Tribute Concert” at the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare. The concert which, starts at 7pm and ends at 10pm, will be supported by two renowned acapella groups, Reunion Zimbabwe and Radience Acapella.

Also included in the line-up will be guest a capella group and CARA awards nominee, Joyful Soul from Malawi. The concert will coincide with Shower Power’s current shows in honour of the groups’ former members who have been part of the musical journey.

According to the group’s executive producer Mandikudza Sithole, the tribute concert was aimed at celebrating its former and current members’ song-writing genius, passion for music and originality of songs which basically captured Shower Power’s identity as an a capella gospel group.

“We are paying tribute to our song writers of the last generations of Shower Power. These are guys who have contributed a lot to Shower Power music. They wrote our songs, especially the guys who started off during our early days.

“So we are paying tribute to these song-writers because Shower Power is all about music. Their songs and music have been consistent and very original, whereas a lot of people these days who sing our style reproduce songs written and composed by others,” said Mr Sithole.

He added that Shower Power music had inspired people in many different ways and that in the last 21 years that his group had ministered through song, they have been able to impart knowledge of scriptures with the help of God’s spirit. He said the concert also aimed at celebrating the richness of creativity and talent that Shower Power as a group had been blessed with. These talents have allowed Shower Power to remain consistent in its approach to delivering only the best in terms of original Zimbabwean a capella music.

He said both former and current members of Shower Power have given their all in song-writing and stage performances. He said this made it necessary for Shower Power to pay tribute to this dedicated team whose efforts have sustained Shower Power to its current state.

“We have some of our former members now based in the United States who pioneered our group and have contributed to songs on our old albums. They will be performing at the concert” he said.

Sithole promised that the concert would be a memorable show for everyone adding that both young and old across denominational boundaries were welcome to attend.

He said his group, Shower Power, was going to showcase the musical experience it had gained over 21 years of its existence and that their former members who are coming from the United States would add flavour to their performances by showcasing techniques they had learned whilst in America.

“It will be fun-filled and full of the Holy Spirit. As Shower Power we are going to be performing a lot of old time songs from back in the days and even the latest songs. So we are celebrating all the eight albums put together.

“We are going to be joined by our guys from USA who are coming and will be performing with us. They have already jetted into Zimbabwe. Locally we have groups like Reunion. This group has been around for 16 years now,” said Sithole.

Commenting on the general acceptance of accapella in Zimbabwe, Sithole said he was pleased with the level of reception of a capella music, judging by the general performance of a capella songs on the local music charts.

He said he was happy with the performance of his group’s song “Without Love” from their latest album “The Journey” which was voted into Star Fm’s Gospel Greats and had reached pole position where it stayed for weeks.

He said this bore testimony to the fact that a capella music was holding its own despite stiff competition from songs which had heavy instrumentation.

Meanwhile, tickets for the concert are priced at US$7 per individual while VIP tickets are pegged at US$15 per head.

“Tickets are available at Prismatic Hardware Strathaven Shops, Eyelike Music shop number 121st Main Post Office or Letbert Shop 151 Corner Jason Moyo and Chinhoyi Street”.
