Mwandikudza Sithole, the director of the group said.
The album has since received overwhelming recognition since its recent release locally and internationally.
“The Journey” for its unique combination of design, function and engineering was awarded the US CARA award as the Best African Album Acapella.
The song “Without Love” also on the same album is number one on Star FM gospel greats and Power FM’s Top 20. Zim Praise gave the group an honorary award for having been in the industry for a long time with success.
Sithole who joined the group in 1996 says the group’s choice to concentrate on the African do-whoop sound was a good choice.
“As a group coming out of the Seventh Day Adventist Church we decided to concentrate on acapella, the kind that has an African Do-whoop to have a distinction from our origins in the Lighthouse. It was difficult at times as the genre was challenging having to come out with quality music without the use of instruments. We rose to the challenge by making music that reaches the soul by harmony and good messages,” he said.
The current Shower Power comprises Sithole, Jeremiah Janda, Clive Muhwati, Tinovimba Ndiraya, Donavan Gumbo, Ngonidzashe Gumbo, Innocent Kudyautambe, Gilmour Nyabani, Professor Mkohliswa and Wayne Sibanda.
“The Journey” was launched in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Malawi, Botswana, Uganda and Rwanda. The group will be launching the album in South Africa, Namibia, United Kingdom and Australia starting from July.
