Shun corruption, cops told

of good practices. In his address during the 2012 Commissioner General’s Christmas Church service in Harare on Friday, Officer Commanding Police Protection Unit,Senior Assistant Commissioner Fortune Zengeni, said corruption needed to be addressed.

“Corruption has become a menace and a cancerous practice in our society and our organisation and must be eradicated completely,” he said.
Snr Asst Comm Zengeni challenged the church to work with the police in combating corruption.

“As we pray today, let us not forget that we are the custodians of good practices and moral uprightness. Since time immemorial the church and law enforcement agencies have worked hand in glove to fight against corruption,” he said.
Snr Asst Comm Zengeni called for discipline in the police.

“As we celebrate the carols, allow me to reiterate the call for discipline as it is the cornerstone in our day-to-day living and more so the bedrock of any progressive organisation,” he said.

President Mugabe castigated corruption in the police while addressing the Zanu-PF Annual People’s Conference in Gweru a fortnight ago. He said police should not demand bribes from criminals.
