SHURUGWI Town Council has appointed Mr Archibald Ncube as its new Town Secretary, a move aimed at strengthening administrative leadership and driving development initiatives in the mining town.
Town Council Chairperson, Councillor Fanuel Machiya, confirmed Mr Ncube’s appointment, commending his exemplary leadership during his probationary period.
“The new Town Secretary has performed exceptionally well during his probation and has transformed the outlook of this town. During that time, Mr Ncube oversaw the completion of a trunk sewer line linking the town to Manzimudhaka and connecting suburbs such as Mambowa to the main system. He had been on probation since May before his confirmation as substantive Town Secretary,” he said.
Councillor Machiya said Mr Ncube has been tasked with driving the local authority’s vision for a smart city, which aims to deliver quality services and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
“One of his main tasks is to elevate Shurugwi to municipality status and ensure that we embrace the smart city concept,” he said.
He added that Mr Ncube’s appointment brings a wealth of experience to the council, and expressed confidence in his leadership.
“Shurugwi is focusing on improving service delivery, including ensuring residents have access to clean water, upgrading infrastructure, addressing housing shortages and promoting small businesses. We are aiming to become a model smart city with quality service delivery within five years,” he said.
Mr Ncube has pledged his commitment to ushering in a new era of progress, collaboration, and community-focused leadership in line with Vision 2030.
“Our objective is to make Shurugwi an upper-middle-class town by 2030,” he stated.
He said development plans include expanding Shurugwi’s boundaries by an additional 10 kilometres.
“This extension aims to accommodate more residents and facilitate housing projects, promoting growth and development in the area. Let us work together to build a better Shurugwi by focusing on progress and positivity, and transforming it into a thriving economy,” he said.
Mr Ncube also highlighted that water provision is one of his key priorities, stressing that residents must have consistent access to clean water.
“This will be complemented by infrastructure development, including the rehabilitation of equipment, replacement of old water pipes, and installation of sewer systems in suburbs that are still lagging,” he said.
