Shurugwi police arrest notorious thief

Midlands Bureau

Police in Shurugwi have arrested a 21-year-old man for a spate of unlawful entry and theft cases committed around the mining town.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the arrest of Panashe Dera of Matamba Village, Shurugwi, on Monday at around 3:30 am.

He said the arrest was made following investigations of a fresh report of unlawful entry and theft case by Blessing Mandishona of Ironsides, Shurugwi.

“Investigations led police officers to Melita Building where they bumped into the suspect, Panashe Dera, with a stolen cell phone,” he said.

“They arrested him and recovered Mandishona’s phones.”

Inspector Mahoko said further interviews led to the recovery of several phones from Dera’s girlfriend, Jani Gavi.

“Further investigations are ongoing and the suspect has since been linked to at least 16 cases. He is set to appear in court for trial,” he said.

Inspector Mahoko called on people in and around Shurugwi who might have fallen victim to unlawful entry and theft incidents to visit Shurugwi Police Station to help identify recovered items.
