A HARARE woman is at odds with her brother following a dispute over the custody of their family house.

Jennifer Makuyandi has applied for a protection order against her brother Norest, citing verbal and physical abuse.

Presiding magistrate, Rutendo Machingura, dismissed the application for lack of evidence.

During the court hearing, Jennifer said:

“He is my brother and I am yet to know why he is abusing me. I am a widow and my husband passed away five years ago.

“I then started staying at my deceased parents’ house.

“On August 20, he returned home at 10pm, and he started insulting and beating me up for being reckless with water.

“After being assaulted, I reported the case to my nephew.”

Jennifer added: “He promised to demolish our family house.

He chased me away from the house and threw away my belongings.

“After all, l have a right to stay in that house.”

Norest, in his defence, denied the allegations.

“Ever since she came back from her husband’s house, she has been calling me a wizard. She accused me of killing her daughter.

“The family advised me that we should go and see a prophet but she refused.

“If she thinks that l am a witch, I want her to bring a sangoma to confirm that.”
