MDC-T’s Job Sikhala yesterday surrendered himself to the police who are keen to question him over utterances he made at the weekend where he urged party supporters to brace for “war” against the Government.
Police sources yesterday said Sikhala who was accompanied by fellow party official and lawyer Mr Obert Gutu went to the CID Law and Order Section at around 10am.
Mr Gutu yesterday confirmed that Sikhala was interrogated for two hours before being released.
“I went with him (Sikhala) to CID Law and Order Section this (yesterday) morning at 10am. We held a meeting with police officers and there was interrogation of my client by five officers,” he said.
Mr Gutu said Sikhala explained the content and meaning of the recent utterances that he made over the weekend. He said the police wanted to know what he meant about using ‘extra ordinary means to confront the Government’.
Police also wanted him to clarify what he meant when he allegedly said President Mugabe was going to be shocked by seeing things he had never seen in his life happening in the country.
“The police were satisfied with his explanations and they said there were going to contact us if they need us. The interrogation took about two hours,” Mr Gutu said.
Yesterday morning, Sikhala had posted on his Face Book page saying, “Have agreed with my lawyer (Mr) Obert Chaurura Gutu, to surrender myself to the Law and Order Section of the ZRP today at 10 o’clock this morning. Hahahaha, everyone who knows me knows that l have a stone heart that cannot be easily break (sic).”
Police chief spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba on Monday said they had invited Sikhala over utterances he made at a rally in Kuwadzana, Harare at the weekend.
Sikhala, who returned to the MDC-T fold recently, addressed party supporters in Harare’s Kuwadzana suburb where he attempted to incite people against the Government.
