In an interview, Sikhala said investigators from Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) ruled out an electrical fault as the cause of the fire.“The police conducted investigations the following morning together with people from the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company. Investigators from ZETDC completed their investigations and ruled out electrical problems.
“I am waiting for a police report and I am certain it was a petrol bomb that was thrown at my offices. There was machinery worth more than US$10 000 inside and everything went up in flames,” Sikhala said.
He said he had earlier received threats from unidentified people.
“My offices were petrol-bombed on Monday and I was called only to realise everything was on fire. I arrived at the same time with fire tenders from Chitungwiza.
“I do not know who did it since everything was done in the middle of the night. This happened after I received strange calls from people who were talking a lot of nonsense about my stance on exit packages for ministers and the referendum,” he said.
He said he reported the strange calls to the officer-in-charge at St Mary’s Police Station.
“They thought I could dance to their tune. They are cowards and they should have confronted me during the day and not call at strange times. I informed the officer-in-charge at St Mary’s Police Station about the calls but unfortunately it ended this way,” Sikhala said.
