Sikhonjwa dodges Deputy Sheriff’s bullet

BULAWAYO socialite Babongile Sikhonjwa is off the hook after his property was saved from the hammer on Friday.
He reached an agreement to pay his overdue rentals with Knight Frank, the property managers for a residential flat he rented in central Bulawayo.

Last week, Sikhonjwa’s property, a 42 inch LED television and a PA system with speakers, nearly went under the hammer as he was in rent arrears amounting to $1,200.  Sikhonjwa had gone for six months without paying rent for number 5 Venture Court following a dispute.  Knight Frank through their lawyers Dube, Tachiona and Tsvangirayi went to court to recover the money.

Sikhonjwa’s property was then attached after he lost the case earlier this year.

The lawyer handling the case Bruce Masamvu said: “Sikhonjwa promised to bring the money in so we stopped it (the auction of his property). However, if he doesn’t settle his dues until the next auction his property will be sold.”

Sikhonjwa on the other hand breathed a huge sigh of relief and said he would be more careful in the future.  He said he was embarrassed by the whole fiasco and took comfort in that some prominent people had lost more and even gone to jail.

“The issue is now water under the bridge. These things happen to the best of us. I suppose it was slightly embarrassing but I found solace in using my projector to watch TV. People were treating me as if I had married 11 wives and expecting to be sentenced for 40 years.”

“I almost left the country or hid under a rock but then I thought of all the other big people that have lost their properties, others are in prison others have cheating spouses and some are being fired from their parties. So my problem was really minimal,” said Sikhonjwa.

He said he was happy that his property was on its way back just in time for the World Cup to start in Brazil in the next few weeks.
“My 42 inch 3D LED TV is on its way back. It’s high time you asked yourself how big is your TV? Ponder on that when laughing at me. He, who knows, knows,” said Sikhonjwa.

According to an advert placed in last Wednesday’s Chronicle by the messenger of court, the NRZ Contributory Pension Fund was the plaintiff and Sikhonjwa was the defendant in the case.
