SIKHULILE Secondary School beat nine other schools to retain their Mzilikazi district netball title after edging Mpopoma High 11-10 in the final played at Ihlathi Secondary yesterday.

The tie went into extra time after ending 9-9 in normal time.

Other schools that took part were Sizani, Msitheli, Nkulumane, Ihlathi, Mandwandwe, Lobengula, Njube and Magwegwe.

Sikhulile are the Bulawayo province defending champions and will now be joined by the losing finalists Mpopoma and Njube High, who finished third.

Sikhulile proved too powerful for Njube, beating them 22-5 in the semi-finals, while Mpopoma overcame Msiteli 16-7.

Mzilikazi district sports convenor Shadreck Mlauzi said the provincial event would be held next week.

Sikhulile coach Karen Marechera said they had enough time to prepare for the provincials.
