SIMBA Bhora coach, Mandla ‘Lulu’ Mpofu is a man skating on thin ice if the former champions’ recent results are anything to go by.

The team has not won in the last five games, losing three matches and drawing the other two.

The draws were against Caps United and Triangle, both identical 1-1.

The Shamva side who are in 10th place on the log with 21 points, last tasted victory at the beginning of May when they beat ZPC Kariba 2-1 at Wadzanayi Stadium.

On Sunday, the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions were humbled by log leaders Hardrock 3-0.

It was the manner in which Simba Bhora lost, that is particularly worrisome.

Go Buju Go as they are affectionately known, never showed any resistance, they looked off the pace and disjointed.

Even their usually dependable captain Webster Tafa was far from convincing, gifting Hardrock with the opener after unsuccessfully trying a nutmeg in a dangerous position.

And that summed up the team’s recent defensive frailties where they have now conceded eight goals in the last three matches.

“It is becoming very worrisome, “ Mpofu admitted.

“We came into the game against Hardrock very worried by our recent results and we were looking to get something but it is disappointing that we lost.”

This league has demonstrated that teams rarely get patient with underperforming coaches.

Simba welcome Ngezi Platinum Stars at Wadzanayi tomorrow and Mpofu is cognisant of the need to turn things around.

The former Chicken Inn coach is aware of the consequences of a prolonged winless run.

He gave a run to a couple of the team’s young players such as Tapiwa Mandinyenya and Tavonga Kuleya whom he believes can provide answers to their challenges.

“We have some youngsters that we gave game time and they are looking good, it is still 18 matches to go and we will soldier on,” he said.
