Singer denounces marriage break-ups

SUNGURA musician, Emmanuel “Captain Manex” Chipucha, says his music preaches the gospel which frowns upon marriage break-ups.

Captain Manex, who hails from Mhondoro Ngezi, said he went as far as Form Four and marriage break-ups in societies inspired him to sing.

“I grew up enjoying sungura music where I would imitate popular singers.

“We would walk more than nine kilometres to go and listen to music at a Growth Point during my stay in the rural areas. You know it was difficult to be known since I was in the remote areas,” he said.

The Orchestra Horizon Band boss has a six-track album titled Mhezi yeRudo, which consists of such songs Varikuchema, Mhezi yeRudo, Matemai, Malume (pfuma), Mwanangu Shayne and Handina kubhinya.

“I sing about love songs and the inspiration came from seeing marriage break-ups. We are living in times where couples are breaking up on a daily basis.

“So, my music is urging people not divorce but rather lovers should solve their differences amicably.

“You should feel pain each time you think of separation and it’s my intention to preach about and build marriages,” he added.

The singer, who is currently based in Johannesburg, leads a six-member band.

“Being away from home is not easy but we are making strides here.

“We have busy schedules here and at times we tend to leave music to focus on work. So, some of the songs might be related to me, but the songs are a therapy to anyone going through difficult times in love.

“I am trying to preach love to all the generations. The music is receiving commendable airplay from our fans across the globe.”
