Singer Wayne, Anita bemoan depression

AFRO pop musician Tendai “Wayne F.O.G” Mukangairwa and Anita Jaxson have joined forces in a song decrying the pressure young people endure, resulting in depression.

Titled “Depression”, the song has a video, in which both artistes featured.

Wayne, whose sound blends with African sounds, hip hop and R&B, engaged Anita on the track “Depression”.

“Depression is a track with a lot of heart and soul. Also, it has meaning. The song means a lot to me, where I come from, life is hard for a lot of us and we fight to survive and our right to thrive every day.

“The pressure on young people grows daily, trying to support ourselves, our families and somehow dreaming long enough to keep our ambitions alive.

“The song tells my story and my fellow countrymen’s stories,” said Wayne.

He added: “In this song, I am trying to communicate the frustration and sorrow we feel every day.

“At the same time, I’m looking around the world we live in today and I think everyone can relate to how it feels.

“To every listener, just know I wrote this for you, too, and pray for your peace.

“There is too much pressure, I am under pressure, like choking, I am under depression.

“Social media is giving the youths pressure prompting depression,” he said.

Wayne, who once collaborated with a Nigerian artist, believes his sound is making an impact.

“The sound of Africa is hot right now.

“Harare is a melting pot of influences because people from all over Africa and the world are accepted here.

“That’s why so much of my own music has a fusion of sounds, genres, and languages.”

The brainchild of Blksmith Records, Wayne made a breakthrough internationally with Ikoko, which took him to Lagos, Nigeria, to collaborate on a Remix.

“That’s got to be up there. That said, this current collaboration with Anita Jaxson has been huge for me.”

“I want to make the blueprint for Zimbabwean Music and share it on a global stage.

“No matter your language, our pain, and our joy are universal and I know my country has so much to offer.”
