The Covid-19 pandemic has affected us all in different way.
For many it has been negative but for some it has not deterred them from pursuing their goals.
In my last article, I talked about good communication and mental health, keeping yourself active through positive means to make your mark.
This week despite of Covid-19, I caught up with a brother of mine, Siphosenkosi Jedidiah Kadzutu.
Talk about young people making a mark in their generation!
Siphosenkosi Jedidiah Kadzutu is one such young man.

At 19, he carved his name amongst Zimbabwean authors with his first published book: “Becoming 19”.
He launched his book and did not stop there. Now at 20, Siphosenkosi wears many hats and is certainly one to watch. He is a social change agent for individuals, organisations and communities through the diligent use of his natural and learnt skills, talents and abilities.
And that’s not all, he is a professional public speaker, author, host, entrepreneur and innovative planner who believes that every human being has a legacy to write and leave, hence his mantra is “Take all leave a legacy”.
Siphosenkosi also speaks in different institutions and organisations on subjects that include leadership, public speaking, innovative planning, goal setting, high performance and team building.
And get this: he is the founder of Legacy Builders Foundation and Sijeka Incorporated while also currently serving as the secretary of executive toastmasters’ club.
He has won many awards including but not limited to 2021 Division Z (Zimbabwe) Toastmasters International Public Speaking Champion, 2019/2020 Toastmaster Of The Year For Executive Toastmaster Club, 2019/2020 Communicator Of The Year Award For Executive Toastmasters Club.
This week I had the opportunity to talk to him about his Book “Becoming 19” and I share below, part of the conversation as he had some interesting things to say about his book:
Q: What is your book title and what does the title mean?
A: The book title is “Becoming 19”.
The title has nothing to do with age. It is a term I use to describe a type of mind-set one has to adopt to become the best version of themselves.
2: What inspired you to write this book at this time?
A:Firstly, it was my mother and secondly my obsession with how the mind works.
“Becoming 19” is a book that is packed with principles that I believe can help any person who desires to BECOME great by simply adopting the mind-set they need to get there. It deals with four levels that the average human being participates such as individual, relational, organisational and societal.
This book teaches you how to function in these levels and help you outstanding results. By the time you finish the book you will realise that success really starts in the mind and it will also show you how to execute.
3: What did you learn while writing the book?
A; We know that some writers struggle to finish a project. Funny enough I didn’t struggle to write the book what I struggled with was start the process to write the book. I learnt that sometimes you do not need to know what to do, how to do it and when to do it. As I say in chapter two of my book, JUST START.
The response has been great and it is my hope that I can get every youth in world to read this book because there is so much potential in the youth of this Generation and we just need the right mind-set.
Q:Tell us about some awards that you have received?
A: My most recent award was for being the best public speaker for the international speech contest in Zimbabwe. I am really proud of this one because I am a very passionate about changing lives through speaking.
One of the biggest lessons that I learnt is that patience is key.
In all you do, focus on the end goal and set minor targets /milestones.
So there you have it friends. Next story could be about your great journey in pursuit of your dreams, so do get in touch and share – or perhaps if you would just like to discuss more about any of the topics we have covered here.
One of my favourite pastimes is talking to people that have made or are making great achievements – people that make a mark. I like to learn from them, see what I can improve in my own pursuits and hopefully you too find some value in the stories we share.
