BUSINESS tycoon and philanthropist Mr Wicknell Chivayo, popularly known as Sir Wicknell, has been recognised among Africa’s leading business and humanitarian figures after receiving the Africa Inspiring Change Maker Award at the 100 Most Notable Africans Leadership and Business Summit held in Marrakech, Morocco on June 27.

The award recognises outstanding commitment to ethical leadership, entrepreneurship and community empowerment, with organisers citing Sir Wicknell’s philanthropic work and business achievements across several African countries, including Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania and Eswatini.

The summit brought together entrepreneurs, policymakers, diplomats and innovators from across the continent to discuss sustainable development, peacebuilding and the empowerment of women and youth.

The organisers said the recognition also forms part of the 100 Most Notable Peace Icons in Africa initiative, which celebrates individuals making significant contributions to Africa’s development through leadership and strategic partnerships.

Chairman of the organising committee, Mr Kingsley Amafibe, said Sir Wicknell’s leadership and influence have earned him continental recognition.

“It is in recognition of your growing impact, visionary leadership, and contribution to Africa’s evolving business landscape that you have been selected for this distinguished continental recognition,” he said.

“This honour celebrates not only your achievements, but also the hope, inspiration and opportunities your leadership continues to create for countless people across the continent.”

Mr Amafibe said Sir Wicknell’s participation in the summit enriched discussions and inspired entrepreneurs, women leaders and young Africans from across the continent and the diaspora.

He said the businessman had distinguished himself through initiatives that promoted enterprise development, economic inclusion and youth empowerment while his business interests continued to expand across the region.

The summit also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting ethical leadership, peacebuilding and sustainable development in line with continental aspirations under the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Mr Amafibe said the annual gathering celebrated African leaders whose work was shaping the continent’s economic and social transformation while fostering partnerships aimed at accelerating inclusive growth.
