THE elder sister of Chaleen Chivhiya, the Morgan High School student who died after being struck by a bus along Seke Road on Tuesday morning, is traumatised.
Catherine Chivhiya, 17, a Form 4 student at the same school, said she is still in shock.
She will not be able to write her O’ Level examination today.
“I left home with Chaleen in the morning, but transport was hectic,” she told H-Metro.
“So, I left her behind and went to school because I had a morning exam.
“As soon as I got to school, I heard news that there was a girl who was hit by a bus, but the thought of it being my baby sister never crossed my mind.
“I couldn’t finish the exam, out of anxiety.
“I left the examination room early to find out who the girl, who had been run over by a bus, was.”
Catherine, who wept while talking about the pain of losing her sister, said she will take time to heal.
“My heart sank when I heard it was my little sister.
“I wish I had waited for her and held her hand while crossing the road.
“She would be here right now,” said Catherine, with tears streaming down her cheeks.
She said she failed to write her Commerce exam because she was still haunted by the fact that her impatience could have contributed to the tragic death of her sister.
“I don’t have the strength to write nor can I study for my exams, my sister’s death has broken me,” she sobbed.
She was consoled by her aunt, who said Chaleen will be buried at Zororo Memorial Park.
Charleen’s mother was being comforted by relatives when H-Metro arrived at their home.
There were reports that representatives of the company, which owns the bus which knocked her down, also visited the house to pay their respects.
