A HARARE woman heaved a sigh of relief yesterday after she successfully applied for a protection order against her abusive and suicidal sister.
Norah Kapungu accused her sister, Fiona, of selling property from the family house.
She also accused Fiona of assault.
Magistrate Tamara Chibindi granted Norah the protection order.
Norah said Fiona had forced her to surrender keys to the car their parents left for them to use.
“My sister assaults me every day claiming she is the oldest and should, therefore, have everything our parents left for us.
“She does not stay at that house, but visits every week.
“I was married, but my marriage did not work out so I returned to stay at our parents’ house.”
Norah claimed Fiona was married, and stays in Kambuzuma with her family, but wants to evict her from their family home to rent it out to tenants.
“I tried talking to her, but she became violent and beat me up.
“At one time, she poured petrol in the house, intending to burn it down.
“She threatens me with death and I am scared for my life.
“She doesn’t want me or my children to stay at that house.
“We are blood sisters, same mother and same father, but she treats me like an outcast.”
In her defence, Fiona said:
“My sister brings different men to my parents’ house and ari kuita kuti pamba parerukeW.
“People no longer respect our house since it resembles a brothel than a home.
“I admit assaulting her but that is because she constantly refuses to move out and find somewhere else to do her prostitution, not my mother’s house.”
