A CITY woman’s bid to force her two sisters-in-law to vacate their family homestead failed yesterday after her protection order application was thrown out.
Matinetsa Chichitike was accusing her sisters-in-law, Fungai and Miriam Kusa, of physical and verbal harassment. But, Harare magistrate Rutendo Machingura dismissed her application for lack of evidence.
“Since the death of my husband, his sisters have been physically and verbally abusing me. This month, they came to my place and harassed me in front of my co-tenants when we were returning from a funeral. They started abusing me back in 2014, but I just kept quiet since they are my husband’s sisters,” she said.
But Fungai challenged Matinetsa’s testimony, saying she was avoiding revealing the reason behind their misunderstanding.
“We fought over the issue of her son, who was accused of abusing his sister, but was refusing to move out.
“She is trying to evict us all from the homestead we grew up in,” said Fungai.
Mirriam concurred with her older sister, saying: “I agree with what my sister is saying because Matinetsa has been a problem like her name. We have two sisters-in-law, but she is the most problematic one.
“She wants to evict us and have the homestead all to herself.”
