THE State has withdrawn charges against local businessman, Elias Sawari, who was facing fraud accusations.

The charges were withdrawn before plea after the complainant, Godwin Munyama, the director of Waine Investments (Pvt) Ltd, indicated that they had resolved their differences.

The allegations were that in 2009, Munyama requested a soft loan of US$20 000, from Sawari, and promised to repay the money within a month. The court heard that Sawari gave Munyama US$20 000 but he failed to repay it by the agreed time.

Munyama resolved to give Sawari a title deed for his property as surety.

He later settled the loan in full and demanded his title deed.

However, Sawari is said to have given various excuses. Munyama later discovered that Sawari had sold his property and made a report to the police.
