SIX more Mashwede Holdings employees have been arrested in connection with theft involving more than US$70 000.
Daniel Raradza (24), Delilah Masinjalo (26), Charity Mapengo (43), Centiah Zvai (40), Kudzanai Munyama and Patricia Chakare (29) appeared before Harare Magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.
The first and fifth accused persons were granted $50 000 bail each.
Allegations are that the accused were in the habit of stealing cash in American dollars and inflating the amounts in swipe transactions.
On July 20, CID Homicide received information that the accused persons had formed a criminal syndicate which would steal from their employer.
The information stated that after sales, the syndicate would write their daily sales instead of writing the whole sales transaction.
Acting on the information, the syndicate was then arrested.
Out of the US$70 000 they defrauded their employer of, police recovered US$1 000, blanket, a four-plate gas stove, speaker, two continental pillows and clothes bought from the crime proceeds.
The syndicate is part of other employees who have already appeared in court.
Further investigations showed that they had been defrauding their employer since 2020.
The accused, however, alleged that they were assaulted by the police.
The first alleged that police confiscated his property.
The syndicate will appear in court on September 3 and was ordered not to visit Mashwede Complex until the matter is finalised.
Anesu Chirenje prosecuted.
