“In the first accident which occurred on Friday, four people died on the spot while nine others were injured when the commuter omnibus they were travelling in burst a rear left tyre and veered off the road.

Chrispen Mutasa (29) was driving a Nissan Caravan along the Gokwe-Siabuwa road going towards Chireya with 18 passengers on board.
“The Nissan Caravan was towing a trailer. On approaching the 51km peg, the commuter omnibus’s rear left tyre burst and the vehicle veered off the road to the right and overturned before landing on its right side facing the direction where it had come from,” said Insp Mahoko.

The two injured were rushed to Gokwe District Hospital and the bodies were also taken to the mortuary of the same hospital.

“Witness Moyo (60) was driving a truck along the Harare-Kwekwe highway while Reuben Dube (54) was driving a Baw Twin Cab along the same road but going in the opposite direction. Abdenico Mudirira (49) was also driving a Toyota Vitz behind the Baw Twin Cab.
He had three passengers on board.

On approaching the 183, 5km peg, Moyo encroached into the opposite lane, hitting the Baw Twin Cab on the rear right side resulting in the driver, Dube, losing control of his vehicle and veering off the road. The truck went on to collide head-on with the Toyota Vitz resulting in the death of two people.

The other two passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Kwekwe District Hospital where they are admitted,” he said.
