THE Mabvuku turn-off has recorded 69 accidents since January, resulting in nine deaths and 14 injuries.
This was revealed by the Officer Commanding Harare Traffic, Superintendent Cledwin Madzore.
Of the 69 accidents, seven were serious and five were fatal.
Supt Madzore called on drivers to respect road rules and other drivers to reduce accidents.
To control traffic movement, the police are deploying officers along Mutare Road at Jaggers Msasa, N Richards and the Mabvuku turn-off.
Accidents occur mainly during peak hours, and Supt Madzore urged drivers and pedestrians to be patient and avoid speeding to prevent accidents.
The police are also working closely with Community Liaison Committee members in various districts to fight road carnage.
“We are urging motorists to observe road rules, respect other motorists and avoid driving against oncoming traffic.
“We are also urging them to follow instructions given whenever there are traffic police officers.
“We want drivers to be patient on roads and avoid rushing because that is contributing to accidents.
“Kune vanofamba netsoka musamhanye, mirai kusvikira zvaita kuti muyambuke mugwagwa wakachena.
“Life is more precious than anything, so be patient, wake up early to avoid rushing,” said Supt Madzore.
