BULAWAYO arts group Siyaya was robbed of valuables and cash amounting to $1,164 in Harare at the weekend. The group famed for its hit production, Zambezi Express was performing at Shangri-La Restaurant on Saturday when a suspected thief sneaked into the changing room and got away with the group administator’s laptop, hard drive, a cellphone, $1,164 and a passport belonging to one of the group members.
In an interview, Javas Sibanda, group administrator who was at pains to narrate the ordeal said he was carrying a lot of the group’s valuable work.
“I lost a lot of the group’s material which was in the laptop and har drive as well as cash, a cellphone and Makula Moyo’s passport.
We had gone to perform as well as sort out our visas in preparation of our annual European tours and unfortunately we encountered such a devastating incident,” said Sibanda.
Moyo is the lead dancer in the musical, Zambezi Express.
He said the thief ransacked the room and searched all bags.
“I only left the room for about 10 minutes to check on the group’s performance on stage and got the shock of my life when I got back and found my bag missing.
We made a report to the police but nothing has been recovered yet,” said Sibanda.
He added that they were in the process of acquiring an emergency passport for Moyo as he is a key member in the group ahead of their tour.
Sibanda paid tribute to their host whom he said was of great assistance after the incident.
