A 38-year-old Bulawayo man has been sentenced to nine months in prison after he threw stones at a rival and stabbed him once on the left shoulder and once on the arm with an okapi knife upon finding him walking with his wife.
Moses Makuvi of Sizinda appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Jeconia Prince Ncube, facing a charge of assault.
He pleaded guilty and was initially handed a 15 month jail term, of which six months were suspended for five years on condition he does not commit a similar offence within that period.
Prosecutor Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete told the court that the complainant had previously rented accommodation at the accused’s residence.
On February 14, 2026 at around 2PM, the complainant, Michael Kuzonyei (48), was accompanying the accused’s wife to her residence when they encountered Makuvi, who picked up stones and threw them at the complainant.
The court heard that Kuzonyei fled and returned to his home, but the accused followed him there.
Upon arrival, the accused stabbed the complainant once on the left shoulder and once on the left arm with an okapi knife.
“The complainant went to hospital for medical attention and a police report was made, leading to the arrest of the accused,” said Mr Dzimbanhete.
