Senior Minister of State in the President’s Office, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo, has been appointed patron of the John Landa Nkomo Trust.
The trust will be launched on Friday in Bulawayo.
In a statement, the trust said Ambassador Khaya Moyo would also be the guest of honour at the function, that will be combined with a fundraising dinner to raise money for various projects initiated by the late Vice President.
The trust said their major objectives were to propagate the legacy of the late Dr Nkomo, among them to facilitate national healing, tolerance and peace.
The late VP’s son, Mr Jabulani Nkomo, said by registering the trust in his father’s name, the family hoped to keep his legacy alive.
“We are aware of his (the late Dr Nkomo)’s many good deeds and we would like to ensure that we carry on with them in the best way possible.
“One of these ways was to register a trust in his name.
“We consider this to be a perfect vehicle through which we can campaign for funds to assist his projects, especially Landa J High School.
“We hope in the process we will be able to keep his legacy alive,” he said.
Mr Nkomo said, “The launch of the trust was deliberately set for August 22 so that it coincides with his birthday. He would have turned 80 this year.
“It’s a symbolic occasion as it marks the birth of his trust, signalling a spiritual perpetuation of his life,” Mr Nkomo.
As part of the fundraising activities, the trust has a golf tournament scheduled for Saturday 23 August at Harry Allen Golf Club along Gwanda Road in Bulawayo.
Dinner will cost $500 per table of 10 and the golf is $200 per team of four.
