SKYZ Metro FM yesterday announced the last batch of presenters ahead of their September 1 launch. The 16 presenters were selected after a rigorous and meticulous selection process from about 400 people who had auditioned at the station’s offices at Amakhosi Cultural Centre in Bulawayo.

Those who made the list for Bulawayo’s first licensed commercial radio station are Benkosi BK Maphosa, Denson Kulube, Donnah Ncube, Khayelihle Moyo, Kundai Shamuyarira, Manesi Ndlovu, Mellisah Ndlovu, Memory Ndlovu, Merilin Ngwenya, Mthokozisi Zondo, Nyasha Mtamangira, Pamela Musiyazviriyo, Rolanda Ndebele, Sandisiwe Dube, Tafadzwa Mpofu and Thandoxolu Ndlovu.

Skyz Metro FM parent company — Fair Talk Communications said they were happy with the quality of presenters they had attracted.

“It wasn’t easy coming up with the final list as Bulawayo has incredible talent. But at the end, we had to carefully listen to the voices and select the cream,” Fairtalk Communications chief executive, Qhubani Moyo said.

The presenters will work closely with Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi, Samantha Tshuma, Gilmore Tee, Skhu Mpofu and Babongile Sikhonjwa who will double up as producers and hosts, occasionally hosting their own programmes.

He said their station would be vibrant as it would be youthful with youths telling the Bulawayo story.

“The team we’ve chosen to work with will definitely make people eager to tune into our radio station. It will be entertaining, informative and worth tuning into,” Moyo said.

The presenters will now go through an extensive training programme from next month to July as most of them have no broadcasting experience.

Preparations for the station’s launch are at an advanced stage with equipment already being set up at the Amakhosi base.

Breeze FM — sister station to Skyz Metro FM which was also licensed to start operating from Victoria Falls, will from Sunday start conducting its auditions for hosts, news anchors, DJs and presenters. The first auditions will be held on Sunday from 2PM followed by auditions on Monday from 7AM. The last leg of auditions will be held on Tuesday from 7AM. All auditions will be conducted in Nambya, Tonga, Chewa, Ndebele and English at the Ngqondongqondo shopping complex in the resort town.

Breeze FM is also expected to go live on September 1.
